Universal Studios Resorts

Contract Position
Universal Studios Resorts
UX Designer/Researcher
Feb 2022 - Mar 2023
I was initially hired to Universal as a UX Designer. My work in this role spanned all levels of fidelity, included work with international teams, and designing for both internal and guest facing features. My role with Universal transitioned to User Research after I recognized an opportunity to close a gap in the existing team makeup. In this role I supported multiple design teams, coordinated research efforts between them, and executed and analyzed user testing.
The Solution
I successfully took this vague request from inception to development while recognizing additional opportunities for development that would be value adds to multiple product verticals in the organization.
The Problem
Universal Studios Orlando had done the market research to recognize that there was an opportunity to sell another type of ticket between their premier ticket, and their mid tier ticket, but did not know what this flow/process would look like.
The Process
The first thing that I did when receiving this request from business was begin to ideate on the potential flows and getting a sense of what areas of the app would need development work.
As my understanding of the app and what the eventual end flows would be, grew i moved towards higher fidelity design.
As the high fidelity screens took shape, I continued to prototype and refine the flows and screens. This process took me through multiple rounds of user testing and high fidelity prototyping.
I had so much fun prototyping and testing this flow that I worked with my manager and leadership to transition my role for the second half of my contract to UX Research after an internal poll revealed that very few designers were conducting research on their own as intended. This required me to cultivate an intimate understanding of the product trajectory and design initiatives to create prototypes pulling parts of the redesign from multiple design teams into one cohesive prototype.

This exercise was so successful that my model was used to start formalizing a proper UX Research methodology.
